Do You Wear Flip-Flops?

Flip-flops are a staple of summer footwear, but here are some things you may not know about these shoes.

  1. Your feet are not well protected against falling objects.
  2. Thin-soled flip-flops may not protect the underside of your feet from sharp objects.
  3. Gripping the thongs in the shoes to keep them on your feet can cause you to walk differently and may result in lower leg pain, heel spurs and plantar strain.
  4. Your feet probably aren’t used to being exposed to the sun. Remember to use sunscreen on your feet.
  5. If you have an ongoing condition that puts your feet at risk, such as diabetes, choose another shoe option.

For more information on your feet and ankles, contact either Silverman Foot and Ankle or Foot and Ankle Physicians, PA. Both see patients at the United Specialty Center within the Apple Valley Medical Center.
