How Dangerous ARE Opiates?


Addiction and abuse of prescription painkillers, including opiates, have reached epidemic proportions, according to physicians and counselors worldwide. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), 46 people in the United States die every day from an overdose of prescription painkillers. The CDC also reports that U.S. health care providers wrote 259 million prescriptions for painkillers in 2012, enough for every adult to have a bottle of pills.

The CDC recommends that everyone do the following:
