When the Apple Valley Medical Center opened its doors in 1974, just six short months after Apple Valley officially became a city, Reader's Digest called it "the wave of the future in the suburbs." In 1990, the facility expanded to include a specialty center operated by United Hospital, a full-service pharmacy and a physical medicine and rehabilitation area. In the spring of 2007, following a significant expansion, the Apple Valley Medical Center added 20,000 square feet of space, providing 50 percent more space in the Apple Valley Medical Clinic, Urgent Care and the United Specialty Center, including 35 new exam rooms. The pharmacy doubled in size, and United Medical Imaging was added to provide on-site digital mammography, ultrasound, CT and MRI scanning. In 2008, Dr. English retired from active practice.
