Your ear is a very important, but also very complicated, body part. The otolaryngologists at Ear, Nose and Throat Specialty Care of Minnesota can diagnose and treat a number of ear-related conditions, from the need for ear tubes that provide middle ear ventilation to cochlear implants that restore sound to hearing-impaired individuals. They also can repair holes in the ear drum or provide plastic surgery on the outer ear. Providers see patients right here at the Apple Valley Medical Center. Are your children planning to participate in fall sports? If so, it's not too early for them to have a sports physical. Our family medicine providers can make sure your children are in the best shape to participate and don’t have any medical condition that would make them more likely to suffer a sports-related injury. We provide physicals that meet the requirements of the Minnesota State High School League. The eligibility form is found here. Our providers will go over your child's medical history and ask about any existing medical conditions, such as asthma or diabetes. He or she will check your child's nose and throat, lungs, heart, bones, joints and muscles, as well as measure your child's height, weight, blood pressure, and vision. Your child also will be checked for strength, balance and flexibility. Be sure to tell our provider about any medications your child is taking. Help your children enjoy fall sports safely. To make an appointment for a sports physical, contact us at 952-432-6161.

Flip-flops are fun to wear in the summer, but here are some facts about wearing flip-flops that may not be so fun to know.
• With flip-flops, your feet are not well protected against falling objects.
• Thin-soled flip-flops may not protect the underside of your feet from sharp objects.
• Gripping the thongs in the shoes to keep them on your feet can cause you to walk differently and may result in lower leg pain, heel spurs and plantar strain.
• Your feet probably aren’t used to being exposed to the sun. Remember to use sunscreen on your feet when you wear flip-flops.
• If you have an ongoing condition that puts your feet at risk, such as diabetes, choose another shoe option.
For more information on your feet and ankles, contact either Silverman Ankle & Foot or Foot and Ankle Physicians, PA. Physicians at both practices see patients at the United Specialty Center within the Apple Valley Medical Center.
